Apprenticeships give you a fantastic experience in the working world and show employers that you can "hit the ground running". Unlike other training programs, apprenticeships are jobs. Right off the bat, the employer will put you to work; you'll be paid from day 1. You will often start at a fraction of your wage as an employee and work your way up as you continue to learn more. While many internships are unpaid, apprenticeships are always paid.
Training
Apprenticeships are structured training programs which give you a chance to work not only towards a qualification but a career. Apprenticeships help you gain the skills and knowledge you need to succeed in your chosen industry. Depending on the trade, there is a specific required number of hours you much complete both OTJ, (on-the-job) and class-room training. This gives you a real chance to put your skills into practice and helps you to gain more confidence in a working environment.
Choices
There are over 800 Sponsors across the entire state of New York, along with over 150 different types of apprenticeship programs. Whether you desire a career in something besides for construction or manufacturing, there's a good chance there is something for everyone, Apprenticeship Connections wants to see you working for one of them.
Certification
Upon completing your apprenticeship, you will receive an Apprenticeship Completion Certificate recognizing you as a qualified journey-worker nationwide. This Certificate is one of the oldest, most basic, and most highly portable industry credentials in use today. Similar to a college transcript, the education classes you complete can go with you anywhere across the United States.
